About The Project

The homeowners expressed a dissatisfaction with the general layout of the kitchen, laundry room, and sun room. The laundry room was too small, the kitchen area was not functionally friendly, and the sun room was never used making it wasted square footage. There was also a large dividing wall separating the kitchen from the living room, which contributed to the overall choppy flow of this area. Additionally, the existing hardwood floors were badly damaged by foot traffic and pets.

To create more open space, Keystone Building Group took two major steps to address the challenges. The first step was to utilize the sun room square footage for more kitchen and laundry room space. The second one was to remove the divider wall between the kitchen and the living room. Both of these steps necessitated either removing or relocating existing walls. Since some of these walls were load-bearing walls, retro-fit steel beams were incorporated to maintain the structural integrity. This opened up the kitchen to the living room and the new breakfast nook (which was previously the sun room). A coffee bar area with open shelving added to the new functional design. The once cramped kitchen now has two islands, one of which was designed for bar stools and dining. Polished quartzite was used for the islands and island cabinets were painted a light dove grey giving them the appearance of a furniture piece. Polished quartz was chosen for the perimeter countertops and Caesarstone Sleek Concrete for the main countertops. Plank tile flooring and a ship lap ceiling complete the enhancement of this kitchen renovation. All of this helped to achieve the transformation of under utilized space into a bright and cheerful area with an open flow.

The new laundry room offers more than just the practical; it is now one of the most attractive rooms of the home. Accessed from the garage, one can enter and hang a jacket, take off boots, or just sit at the desk and browse the internet while doing laundry. There is plenty of counter space for folding laundry and abundant storage space. The plank tile flooring from the kitchen area extends into this room. Quartzite countertops and the dove grey penny-round mosaic backsplash give this room a polished finish. A laundry room this inviting is no longer a room to be avoided!!!
